2026 marks the third year in a row that Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has kindly created an elegant design for the Royal British Legion to be used in a collection of stylish products to help raise money for the charity. This year’s gorgeously glamorous poppy pattern takes inspiration from couture fabrics and fashion illustrations of the early 1950s, a period when wartime austerity began a slow transition into a new and optimistic elegance.
“I wanted a pattern that celebrated the resilient growth of the wartime poppy that brought colour to the unremitting grey of our bombed-out cities. Something powerfully positive. So, I got out my paint palette and decided to follow in the footsteps of Cecil Beaton (a great design hero of mine) and Christian Dior’s favourite illustrator René Gruau. This year’s poppies have a painterly panache to them which I hope everyone’s going to really enjoy sporting this year as a glamorous but thoughtful act of remembrance to those who gave so very much.”
Three Poppies Brooch
The beautiful brooch is a gloriously exuberant interpretation of Laurence’s iconic three-poppy painting, brought to life with a sumptuous golden accent and striking sapphire-blue leaves. The vivid foliage creates a delicious contrast against the richly coloured petals, making the poppies positively sing. It’s a little jewel of unapologetic glamour, botanical beauty with a distinctly theatrical flourish.
